Genea-Musings: Escondido (CA) Family History Fair is Saturday, 3 ...

The annual Escondido Family History Fair 2012?is this Saturday, 3 March, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ?It will be at the Escondido California LDS Stake (2255 Felicita Road).

The theme is "Through Today's Technology: A Gift to Your Future." ?Kendall Jefferson from Ancestry.com is the Keynote speaker. ?

This is the only multi-track, multi-speaker seminar in San Diego county this year, and it is free to attend. ?There is a $13 charge for the syllabus and a $9 charge for a box lunch. ?Attendees had to register by mail by 15 February.

The schedule of speakers and topics is on the Registration Form. ?You can see the Presenter backgrounds and the Class Descriptions on the site. ?There is an Exhibit Hall for displays by local genealogical, historical and heritage societies, but no sales can occur on site. ?

I will be presenting these classes: ?

10:10 a.m.: ?Wikis for Genealogy Collaboration?- What is a wiki, and why do I care? A wiki is a website that permits easy creation and editing of interlinked web pages using a markup language or WYSIWYG text editor. Wiki software is used to create collaborative and community websites, corporate intranets and knowledge management systems. In this presentation, Randy will show some of the currently available wikis for genealogy that permit collaboration on genealogy information and family trees. The benefits and drawbacks of contributing to, and participating in, collaborative efforts will be discussed.

11:20 a.m. ?Genealogy Blogging ? What? When? Why? Where? How??- What is blogging about genealogy all about? Randy will tell all, with examples of genealogy blogs, and a basic how-to of starting one and writing one for you to share your family history and genealogy knowledge with the world.

If those topics interest you, then I hope you attend my classes. ?Please stop by the Chula Vista Genealogical Society exhibit, or catch me in a classroom, to say hello.
