While you?re making your holiday gift list, don?t forget about the furry, four-legged homeless friends in need of a little extra help this holiday season. The Dumb Friends League is holding its annual Paws to Give fund drive Nov. 19, 2012 ? Jan. 6, 2013, to help the tens of thousands of homeless pets in its care each year.
?This is the perfect way to help a homeless pet if adopting isn?t an option,? said Bob Rohde, Dumb Friends League president and CEO. ?Any amount you can give?whether it?s $10, $25, $50 or more?is very much appreciated and can make a big difference to the pets and people in our community.?
This year?s goal of $150,000 will help the Dumb Friends League care for thousands of needy cats, dogs, small pets and horses. Donations can be made online at ddfl.org or by mailing a check to Dumb Friends League Paws to Give, 2080 S. Quebec St., Denver, CO 80231.
The private, nonprofit organization spends $30,664 a day on companion animal services, including $7,133 daily on veterinary care in its shelters and two mobile clinics. Last year, 19,851 pets were adopted to new homes, returned to their owners or transferred to partner facilities. In addition to adopting out homeless pets, the League offers other services, including lost and found, rehabilitation and adoption for formerly abused and neglected horses, humane education, behavior training for pets, animal cruelty investigations and donor-subsidized spay/neuter surgeries for cats and dogs in underserved areas.
