Hughes Connecting Development Bank to Broadband; Kamran ...

Hughes logo_ExecutiveBizHughes Network Systems has won a contract to connect the African Development Bank to a broadband communications network that includes SAP applications and video conferencing, among other attributes.

The company has provided managed network services to the bank since 2008 through a communications network comprising of broadband satellite terminals at 32 bank field offices on the continent, Hughes said Tuesday.

AfDB was seeing a single vendor to provide them turnkey managed services, systems engineering work, statistics and reviews of the systems.

According to Hughes, the bank also wanted one contractor to install and maintain the systems and operate a multi-lingual help desk.

?We are proud to have earned AfDB?s trust and to be chosen as a valued partner in meeting their entire wide area network needs,? said Kamran Givpoor, Hughes vice president of global managed services.

Under this new contract contract, Hughes will connect four AfDB sites to multiprotocol label switching networks for high-speed Internet and Voice over Internet Protocol communications.

?We count on the continued support of Hughes and plan to integrate Hughes into our portfolio of telecommunications service providers we present to our clients,? said David Wu, a bank director.
