Our old friend, the @evleaks Twitter account is back, claiming that it's gotten the first official shots of Nokia's Lumia 820 and 920 with Pureview. The terse tweets claim that the 820 is a 4.3-inch handset, while the 4.5-inch 920 will arrive with Nokia's magical new imaging technology. We're understandably skeptical, given the small size of the lens on the 920 (pictured, left) compared to the 808, but we can't fault the feed's trackrecord for leaks so far.
HOUSTON (Reuters) - BP Plc, the largest oil producer in the Gulf of Mexico, said on Friday that the company was restaffing its shut oil and gas platforms and would restart production "in coming days" once it was deemed safe, the company said.
BP said aerial inspections of its Gulf operations "did not identify any significant damage" after Isaac, which came ashore on Tuesday as a hurricane. The storm later weakened but hovered over coastal Louisiana, hampering Gulf producers' restaffing and restarting efforts. By Friday what was left of the storm had moved north of Louisiana.
BP operates seven Gulf platforms including Thunder Horse, the world's largest, which can produce up to 250,000 barrels per day of oil and 200 cubic million feet per day of natural gas.
PHILADELPHIA?The NFL has asked a federal judge to dismiss lawsuits filed by thousands of former players who say the league hid information suggesting a link between concussions and brain injuries.
Some of the players say they're suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's disease, while others fear such problems and seek medical monitoring.
The league filed court papers Thursday asking a judge in Philadelphia to dismiss about 140 suits that she oversees.
The NFL says the issue is covered by the collective bargaining agreement, and that two other courts have agreed they should not get involved.
U.S. District Judge Anita Brody has been assigned to handle pretrial issues for suits that involve more than 3,300 players.
It's not clear if she'll hear arguments on the motion to dismiss the case.

EVANS, Ga. -- An Evans family is forced to find a place to stay after their home went up in flames on Wednesday.
Luckily no one was inside the home on Bridlewood Trail and firefighters were able to rescue the family's dogs. Now investigators are sifting through the ruins, looking for a cause.
At about 12:30 p.m. a neighbor saw smoke and knocked on the front door of the Hood family home. When no one answered, she called 911.
"When I got here, I ran to the house, looked at it for about five seconds, turned around, and just fell down," explained Blayne Hood.
Hood was just a few miles away when he got the call that his home was on fire.
"I moved here when I was four, so this is the only place I've ever known. Complete loss for words," he said.
His mother came home moments later.
"Devastated. She was worried about the dogs, first thing," Hood said.
The family's two Pomeranians were rescued from the laundry room where they were trapped.
"We've got TVs, stereo systems, X-Boxes, none of that really mattered, all we cared about were the dogs," Hood said.
Neighbor and family friend Ryan Gram followed the fire trucks, not knowing they were responding across the street.
"Firetrucks coming down Furys Ferry towards my neighborhood is just something that you don't see very often. I just fell into a state of shock, didn't know what to do didn't know what to say," Gram said.
Firefighters say the blaze started upstairs or in the attic.
"When it gets into the attic like that, it will walk from one end to the other very very quickly. It's extensive fire damage, extensive water damage," said Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue Special Operations Chief Danny Kuhlmann.
And in full gear, those crews were working in some extreme heat.
"Working 15 minutes is almost like working a whole 8-hour day. It takes that much out of you," Kuhlmann said.
"They're extremely tough mentally and physically so all respect goes to these guys with huge hearts," Gram said.
"It means a lot and I single-handedly went up to them and shook their hands," Hood said.
Even on this dark day, the Hood family is still counting their blessings.
"I'm thankful for the fire station, I'm thankful for my neighbors, I'm thankful for everyone that's helping out today," Hood said gratefully.
Several firefighters were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion. One actually had to be sent to the hospital after he was struck in the head by debris while fighting the fire inside the home. He's already been released and is back to work.
There is no word yet on a cause of the fire.

August 30, 2012 ? Bellevue, WA ? With Android's
worldwide smart device market dominance, and thanks to inexpensive
high-capacity SD Cards and comprehensive software development kit, it
is easier than ever for software developers to build a distributed
network of data-driven applications. While Android includes SQLite, a
built-in database, applications handling mission critical data require
capabilities not available in SQLite.
Important features where support is weak or non-existent in SQLite include:
Security
Data replication
Data synchronization-Concurrent shared access
Flexible storage
Performance
Eventually, such problems make migrating to a different embedded
database inevitable. ITTIA DB SQL is a pure relational database
suitable for Android-based developers. After a straightforward process
of migrating from SQLite, an Android application will have access to a
broad range of features, including:
Shared database access
High-performance memory storage
Replication
Distributed transactions
Table snapshots
Synchronous commit
Replication on commit
Single-master replication on demand
Multiple-master replication on demand
Online backup
Devices with sensitive information must secure data both at rest and
when shared with other systems. Database file encryption protects data
from media theft by encrypting each page before it is saved to flash
storage. ITTIA DB SQL supports AES-128 and AES-256 encryption. With
ITTIA DB's lightweight server, Android databases can also be accessed
remotely for replication, synchronization, and shared access. These
communications can be authenticated with a database password and also
encrypted with OpenSSL.
Transactions provide full ACID protection, guaranteeing atomicity,
consistency, isolation, and durability, with lower overhead than SQLite.
Also, row-level locking with isolation levels allows the database to
automatically track all rows that are read or modified in a
transaction. At the highest level of isolation, known as
"serializable," rows are locked in such a way as to prevent all
possible conflicts.
Algorithms used for in-memory storage are different from those for
on-disk. Since memory tables can be shared between activities and
threads, they are a useful alternative to the Java collection classes.
Hybrid in-memory/on-disk databases containing a mixture of memory and
disk tables can also be created. When tables are stored on disk, ITTIA
DB SQL provides safe, scalable on-disk file storage, and uses row-level
locking for higher concurrency.
In addition, data can be easily shared between threads in an
Activity, Activities in an app process, applications on a device, and
devices on a network. By performing synchronous replication on
designated tables, changes in the table are automatically applied to
other database sites. When a transaction is committed, changes are sent
to other participates using a distributed commit over all
participating peers. As a result, committing a transaction will only
succeed if all replication peers accept the changes.

Reality star Kim Kardashian has sparked rumours that she is planning to marry rapper beau Kanye West by tweeting a photo of her trying on an Emilio Pucci wedding gown.
Captioned "Late night fitting #pucci," Kardashian posted the photo of herself in the white gown to her nearly 16 million Twitter followers, which quickly got them buzzing.
When recently asked if she thinks Kardashian should consider another reality TV wedding, her mother Kris Jenner didn`t seem too keen on the idea.
"My advice as a manager would be get out of town as fast as you can and go to a secret location. But you know, I might have a different opinion tomorrow. You just never know," she said.
Kardashian`s divorce from Kris Humphries has not been finalized yet. Humphries is attempting an annulment by alleging that Kardashian only had her sights set on money and fame, never intending on the relationship to succeed.
However, West is all into his relationship with Kardashian, recently treating her to a full closet makeover.
BOSTON (Reuters) - The scope of a cyber espionage campaign targeting Iran and other parts of the Middle East has widened, even after security experts blew the operation's cover last month, according to the research firm that discovered the Mahdi Trojan.
Israeli security company Seculert said it had identified about 150 new victims over the past six weeks as developers of the Mahdi virus had changed the code to evade detection by anti-virus programs. That has brought the total number of infections found so far to nearly 1,000, the bulk of them in Iran.
"These guys continue to work," Seculert Chief Technology Officer Aviv Raff said via telephone from the company's headquarters in Israel.
The decision to keep the operation running implies that Mahdi's operators were not particularly worried about getting caught, said Roel Schouwenberg, a senior researcher with Kaspersky Lab, which has collaborated with Seculert to analyze Mahdi.
Schouwenberg said some viruses are designed for stealth because they become useless if they are discovered. He pointed to the Stuxnet Trojan that targeted Iran's nuclear program in 2010. After that customer-built virus was uncovered by a security researcher in Belarus, authorities in Iran discovered it in a uranium enrichment facility that it had targeted.
Mahdi is a "less professional" operation that runs on technology built with widely available software, according to Schouwenberg.
"If the quality of your operation is not that high, then maybe you don't care about being discovered," he said. "But the scary thing is that it can still be effective."
The Mahdi Trojan allows remote attackers to steal files from infected PCs, and monitor emails and instant messages, Seculert and Kaspersky said. It can also record audio, log keystrokes and take screen shots of activity on those computers.
The firms said they believed multiple gigabytes of data have been uploaded from targeted machines.
Targets of Mahdi include critical infrastructure firms, engineering students, financial services firms and government embassies located in five Middle Eastern countries, with the majority of the infections in Iran, according to the two security firms.
The bulk of the new victims were also in Iran, according to Seculert, though a few were identified in the United States and Germany.
The two firms have declined to identify specific victims.
Seculert's Raff said he suspected the campaign was being run by hacker activists, or "hactivists," who were either funded by a government or who provide information they collect to a nation for ideological reasons. He declined to say which country might be involved.
Seculert and Kaspersky dubbed the campaign Mahdi after a term referring to the prophesied redeemer of Islam because evidence suggests the attackers used a folder with that name as they developed the software to run the project.
They also included a text file named mahdi.txt in the malicious software that infected target computers.
ScienceDaily (Aug. 29, 2012) ? NASA's Curiosity rover took its first test stroll Wednesday Aug. 22, 2012, and beamed back pictures of its accomplishment in the form of track marks in the Martian soil. Careful inspection of the tracks reveals a unique, repeating pattern, which the rover can use as a visual reference to drive more accurately in barren terrain. The pattern is Morse code for JPL, the abbreviation for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., where the rover was designed and built, and the mission is managed.
"The purpose of the pattern is to create features in the terrain that can be used to visually measure the precise distance between drives," said Matt Heverly, the lead rover driver for Curiosity at JPL.
This driving tool, called visual odometry, allows the rover to use images of landscape features to determine if it has traveled as far as predicted, or if its wheels have slipped. For example, when the rover drives on high slopes or across loose soil, it will routinely stop to check its progress. By measuring its distance relative to dozens of prominent features like pebbles or shadows on rocks -- or patterns in its tracks -- the rover can check how much its wheels may have slipped. If Curiosity has not slipped too much, it can then re-plan the next leg of its drive, taking its actual position into account.
"Visual odometry will enable Curiosity to drive more accurately even in high-slip terrains, aiding its science mission by reaching interesting targets in fewer sols, running slip checks to stop before getting too stuck, and enabling precise driving," said rover driver Mark Maimone, who led the development of the rover's autonomous driving software.
The Morse code imprinted on all six wheels will be particularly handy when the terrain is barren. Curiosity won't be able to read the Morse code symbols in the track marks directly, but it will note that the pattern is a high-contrast feature. This will give the rover the anchor it needs in an otherwise featureless terrain.
"Imagine standing in front of a picket fence, and then closing your eyes and shifting to the side. When you open your eyes, you wouldn't be able to tell how many pickets you passed. If you had one picket that was a different shape though, you could always use that picket as your reference," said Heverly. "With Curiosity, it's a similar problem in featureless terrain like sand dunes. The hole pattern in the wheels gives us one 'big picket' to look at."
NASA's Mars Exploration rovers Spirit and Opportunity also used visual odometry to ensure accurate driving in difficult terrains. Their wheels had been bolted to their landing platform, leaving holes that left distinguishing marks in their tracks. Those marks proved critical for the visual odometry system on Opportunity when it traversed the relatively featureless terrain at Meridian Planum. Opportunity is still trekking on Mars more than eight years after setting down on the Red Planet.
Curiosity likewise has holes in its wheels, only in the shape of Morse code letters.
"Even though Curiosity didn't need to be bolted down, we wanted to have the holes anyway. The mechanical team suggested multiple smaller holes rather than one large one like the Mars Exploration Rovers had, and one earlier design had spelled out letters in a cleat pattern, so I proposed using a Morse code version," said Maimone. "And the rest is history."
JPL manages the Mars Science Laboratory/Curiosity for NASA's Science Mission Directorate in Washington. The rover was designed, developed and assembled at JPL, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.

It is important to consult a criminal defense lawyer if you have been charged with assault and battery, as these types of federal charges can have serious legal consequences. It is also crucial to educate yourself on the different degrees of assault and battery in order to ensure you?re getting the best legal representation for your case. Check out this overview for more information on the different degrees of assault and battery.
Assault and Battery Assault is defined as the intentional unlawful threat to cause bodily harm to another individual by force. Battery, on the other hand, is the willful or intentional touching of a person against his or her will but does not necessarily result in physical harm.
Assault with a Deadly Weapon Assault with a deadly weapon is considered a felony charge and can carry serious jail time. This type of assault occurs when an individual with malicious intent points a gun or other dangerous weapon at another person. An individual may be charged with assault with a deadly weapon regardless of whether the gun was loaded or whether he or she actually had the intention of using the weapon.
Sexual Assault and Battery While the laws will vary from state to state, sexual assault and battery occurs when an individual subjects another to sexual touching or sexual advances that are unwanted or offensive. This may include a variety of crimes, from sexual groping to attempted rape.????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

By now, pretty much everyone has seen a YouTube video featuring someone who took a photo of themselves standing in front of virtually the same background each day for a year. Two years. Five years.?
Well, a man calling himself Thisnomyp has raised the bar: Not only did he take a photo of himself every day for five years, he turned it into a compelling music video (set to music by Buckethead) that shows him moving around, shifting rooms, getting a tattoo, posing with?friends and more.?Calendar pages and T-shirts?scroll by so fast it's impossible to catch them all. (If you can uncover what the two cartoon balloons held up by friends at around the 54-second mark say, you're faster on the pause button than we were.)
Most interesting, of course, is Thisnomyp's (mostly) unblinking stare and the changing creative lengths of his facial and head hair. And bonus: According to his YouTube notes, Thisnomyp has another installment coming for the end of 2013.

Institute for Social Sciences of Sakarya University is pleased to announce ?Middle Eastern Congress on Politics and Society? which will be held between 9 and 11 October,?2012 in Sakarya, Turkey. The Middle East is under spotlight thanks to the Arab Awakening. The latter refers to a groundbreaking chain of events that require radical reworking not only in the Middle Eastern politics but also in the groves of academe, which have largely been caught off guard and oblivious of the new social dynamics of the region. This congress invites students of the region to reconsider and rework not only the highly topical events of the day but also several phenomena that include citizenry, political action, state building, democratic politics, social legitimacy of authority, social justice, social media, new political consciousness, national self-determination and the post 9/11 international politics of the Middle East. While Europe and the US needed several centuries to develop modern political governance and civil society, the challenge for the Middle Eastern peoples is to press on the means of democratic politics in a much lesser time frame and under perilous conditions. Sakarya University invites scholars, public figures and activists of all stripes to join the panels and colloquiums for advancing our understanding of the region. The language of the Congress will be English, Arabic and Turkish with simultaneous translation provided.
The opening speech of the congress will be given by the Foreign Minister of Turkey,?Ahmet Davutoglu.

New optical instrument helps diagnose, monitor peripheral arterial disease
WASHINGTON, Aug. 30, 2012For many diabetics, monitoring their condition involves much more than adhering to a routine of glucose sensing and insulin injections. It also entails carefully monitoring the ongoing toll this disease takes on their body.
An innovative new optical diagnostic tool created by Columbia University researchers and reported today in the Optical Society's (OSA) open-access journal Biomedical Optics Express may soon make it easier to diagnose and monitor one of the most serious complications of diabetes, peripheral arterial disease (PAD). PAD, which is marked by a narrowing of the arteries caused by plaque accumulation, frequently results in insufficient blood flow to the body's extremities and increases a person's risk for heart attack and stroke.
This new noninvasive imaging technique known as dynamic diffuse optical tomography imaging (DDOT) uses near-infrared light to map the concentration of hemoglobin in the body's tissue. This mapping can reveal how effectively blood is flowing to patients' hands and feet.
"Currently, there are no good methods to assess and monitor PAD in diabetic patients," explains Andreas Hielscher, Ph.D., professor of Biomedical and Electrical Engineering and Radiology, and director of the Biophotonics and Optical Radiology Laboratory at Columbia University.
"Patients with PAD experience foot pain, called 'claudication,' while walking," adds Gautam Shrikhande, M.D., assistant professor of surgery, and director of the Vascular Laboratory at Columbia's Medical Center. "This pain continues, even at rest, as the disease progresses. In more advanced stages, PAD patients develop sores or ulcers that won't heal. Then, cell death, a.k.a. 'gangrene,' occurs and amputation is often the only solution. It's extremely important to diagnose PAD early, because medication and lifestyle changes can alleviate the disease."
This is where DDOT can help. "We've successfully used DDOT to detect PAD in the lower extremities," says Michael Khalil, a Ph.D. candidate working with Hielscher at Columbia. "One key reason why DDOT shows so much promise as a diagnostic and monitoring tool is that, unlike other methods, it can provide maps of oxy, deoxy and total hemoglobin concentration throughout the foot and identify problematic regions that require intervention."
"Using instrumentation for fast image acquisition lets us observe blood volume over time in response to stimulus such as a pressure cuff occlusion or blockage," said Hielscher.
To map and monitor the presence of hemoglobin, the protein that carries oxygen in the blood, red and near-infrared light is shone at different angles around areas that are susceptible to arterial disease. These specific wavelengths of light are then absorbed or scattered, depending on the concentration of hemoglobin.
"In the case of tissue, light is absorbed by hemoglobin. Since hemoglobin is the main protein in blood, we can image blood concentrations within the foot without using a contrast agent," Hielscher points out. Contrast agents pose the risk of renal failure in some cases, so the ability to monitor PAD without using a contrast agent is a great advantage.
Since more than 25 million people or 8 percent of the population in the United States are diabetic, this diagnostic tool has the potential to make it significantly simpler to diagnose and monitor diabetics with PAD in the future.
Khalil, Hielscher, and colleagues hope to bring their diagnostic tool to market and into clinics within the next 3 years.

An increase in supplemental health insurance policies is displaying a greater need among Americans to balance potential medical costs and risks with existing coverage. Health costing professional, Aaron Beaston Blaakman expands on this rising trend.
New York, New York (PRWEB) August 28, 2012
For many years, many Americans with full-time employment have been able to meet the medical needs of themselves and their families with coverage supplied by one main health insurance policy. While these policies are still bundled in with many employee benefits packages, many are finding that existing coverage is not enough to address additional costs that come with illness. A recent article from CNBC comments on this problem and notes that citizens are now using supplemental policies to gain additional coverage and fill in gaps among current policies. Aaron Beaston Blaakman is an expert in health care finance and explains the reasons behind this trend.
According to Aaron Beaston Blaakman, the health care market is changing; not only are patients being faced with additional financial burdens, but providers are also searching for ways to fund growth. Blaakman explains, ?As the market for health insurance shifts to balance higher health care costs and the needs of patients, inevitably, cost-sharing will be required through supplementary plans. In the past, many enrollees expected most, if not all health services to be covered within a given plan. As the CNBC article indicates, the consumer must now be much savvier about the market for health care plans, balancing risk, need and cost.?
Although these supplemental policies are driven by a high deductible, many feel that paying extra is a great way to reduce financial risk if an accident or chronic illness occurs. According to industry analyst LIMRA, ?overall [supplemental insurance] sales rose 11 percent between 2011 and 2012, with critical illness sales jumping by 23 percent and accident plans by 21 percent.? Aaron Beaston Blaakman observes that this growth is only expected to increase, as patients become more aware of their individual needs and costs.
With customization in mind, the article warns consumers against making supplemental insurance purchases without proper research. The article suggests that policyholders beware of bundled packages and to make sure that the coverage is comprehensive enough without over-estimating the needs of the patient. CNBC also recommends that to plan for the high deductible associated with these health plans, policyholders should also contribute to a Health Savings Account. In addition, Aaron Beaston Blaakman suggests, ?A year-to-year approach?balancing the variety of relevant factors?would probably be the best strategy for most consumers.?

WASHINGTON (AP) ? A Navy SEAL's firsthand account of the raid that killed Osama bin Laden pulls back the veil on the secret operations conducted almost nightly by elite American forces against terrorist suspects.
Former SEAL Matt Bissonnette's account contradicted in key details the account of the raid presented by administration officials in the days after the May 2011 raid in Abbotabad, Pakistan, that killed the al-Qaida leader, and raised questions about whether the SEALs followed to the letter the order to only use deadly force if they deemed him a threat.
Bissonnette wrote that the SEALs spotted bin Laden at the top of a darkened hallway and shot him in the head even though they could not tell whether he was armed. Administration officials have described the SEALs shooting bin Laden only after he ducked back into a bedroom because they assumed he might be reaching for a weapon.
Military experts said Wednesday that if Bissonnette's recollection is accurate, the SEALS made the right call to open fire on the terrorist mastermind who had plenty of time to reach for a weapon or explosives as they made their way up to the third level of the house where he hid.
Bissonnette wrote the book, "No Easy Day," under the pseudonym Mark Owen as one of the men in the room when they killed bin Laden. The book is to be published next week by Penguin Group (USA)'s Dutton imprint. The Associated Press purchased a copy Tuesday.
For years, the primary weapon in the war on terror has been unmanned drones firing missiles from the sky. But the Bissonnette book reveals a more bloody war waged by special operators, one the public almost never gets to see close up.
The book offers intimate details of a special operations mission. The most memorable scenes are also the most human moments. Bissonnette describes one of the SEALs dressing the wounds of a woman who was shot when she lunged toward the SEALs. In another scene, a terrified mother clutches her child and a young girl identifies the dead man as Osama bin Laden, seemingly unaware of the significance of those words.
In that regard, the bin Laden raid seems destined to become an anachronism. Nearly every top al-Qaida figure killed by the United States since the 9/11 attacks has died in a remote-controlled strike by unmanned drone aircraft ? their deaths seen back in Washington via high-definition video. An estimated 80 top terrorist leaders have been killed in places like Pakistan and Yemen, according to The Long War Journal.com, which tracks such airborne strikes.
Special operations troops often conduct raids similar to the bin Laden strike a dozen times a night in Afghanistan, and previously in Iraq, killing thousands of mostly mid- and lower-level terrorists. It's all part of a war on terror that is winding down and giving way to the drone war outside traditional war zones, given the scheduled drawdown of most U.S. troops in Afghanistan by the end of 2014.
"No Easy Day" shows how routine such operations have become. But the public rarely hears about them. This raid to capture bin Laden, though, was historic.
The SEALS, according to Bissonnette's description, were prepared as they had been in other raids for a gunfight in close quarters, which likely would last only a few seconds, with no margin for error. By the time the SEALs reached the top floor of bin Laden's compound, roughly 15 minutes had passed, giving the terror leader adequate time to strap on a suicide vest or get a gun, he said.
Bissonnette says he was directly behind a point man going up the stairs in the pitch black hallway. Near the top, he said, he heard two silenced shots fired by the first SEAL into the hallway. He wrote that the point man had seen a man peeking out of a door on the right side of the hallway, but Bissonnette could not tell from his vantage point whether the bullets hit the target.
The author writes that the man ducked back into his bedroom and the SEALs followed, only to find him crumpled on the floor in a pool of blood with a hole visible on the right side of his head and two women wailing over his body. Once they wiped the blood off his face, they were convinced it was bin Laden.
Bissonnette says the point man pulled the two women out of the way and shoved them into a corner. He and the other SEALs trained their guns' laser sights on bin Laden's still-twitching body, shooting him several times until he lay motionless.
The SEALs later found two weapons stored by the doorway, untouched, the author said.
National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor late Tuesday would not comment on the apparent contradiction between the administration's account and the book's version.
Bissonnette writes that during a pre-raid briefing, an administration lawyer told them that they were not on an assassination mission. According to Bissonnette, the lawyer said if bin Laden did not pose a threat, they should detain him.
"If they didn't feel like there was a threat, they would have captured him," co-author Kevin Maurer told the AP on Wednesday. "But from when they first hit the ground, all the way until they got to the third deck, they had encountered armed men, which made the use of force essential," said Maurer, a former AP reporter.
Bissonnette writes that none of the SEALs were fans of President Barack Obama and knew that his administration would take credit for ordering the raid. One of the SEALs said after the mission that they had just gotten Obama re-elected by carrying out the raid. But he says they respected him as commander in chief and for giving the operation the go-ahead.
In an interview scheduled to air Sunday on CBS' "60 Minutes," Bissonnette said the book was "not political whatsoever" and not timed to influence the upcoming national elections. He said it was to commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and credit those whose work made the mission to get bin Laden a success.
"My worry from the beginning is, you know, it's a political season. This book is not political whatsoever. It doesn't bad-mouth either party, and we specifically chose Sept. 11 to keep it out of the politics. If these ? crazies on either side of the aisle want to make it political, then shame on them."
CBS Bissonnette was disguised and his voice altered for the interview. The network used only his pseudonym and not his name.
A former deputy judge advocate general for the Air Force defended the decision to shoot the man the SEALs saw in the hallway.
"In a confined space like that where it is clear that there are hostiles, the SEALs need to take reasonable steps to ensure their safety and accomplish the mission," said the former JAG, ret. Maj. Gen. Charlie Dunlap, who now teaches at Duke University law school.
The Pentagon and the CIA, which commanded the mission, are examining the manuscript for possible disclosure of classified information, and could take legal action against Bissonnette.
In a statement provided to the AP, the SEAL author says he did "not disclose confidential or sensitive information that would compromise national security in any way."
The book does include information not previously reported about specific CIA officers' involvement in the raid.
Bissonnette's real name was first revealed by Fox News and confirmed to the AP.
Jihadists on al-Qaida websites have posted purported photos of the author, calling for his murder.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) ? Thousands of pet owners nationwide are furious that the treats they believe sickened or killed their pets are still on store shelves, and now a well-known congressman is calling for an investigation into the FDA?s handling of the issue.
?I?m holding poison toxins? said Steve Herman as he held up the bag of chicken jerky treats he believes almost killed his dog Penelope. ?I think they should make whoever made them eat them themselves? said Janie Carroll. She lost her beloved dog Benji after he ate another brand of chicken jerky treats.
Complaints to the FDA date back to 2007, but it wasn?t until this year that the agency finally inspected the Chinese plants linked to the illnesses.
Congressman Dennis Kucinich is calling on the inspector general to investigate the FDA?s handling of the toxic treats.
?Can you imagine if this was happening to people and the government said gee we just cant figure this out, the people who run the agency would be out? Kucinich said.
He calls their delayed factory inspections incomplete because Chinese manufactures refused to release samples to the FDA for testing. Then they were told that the manufacturers hadn?t received any complaints when the FDA itself has said that they have forwarded most of these complaints to the manufacturers? said Kucinich.
He?s referring to the thousands of complaints from dog owners to the FDA. Many are now online and detail the horrific deaths endured by dogs after eating various brands of dog treats made in China. There are nearly a dozen different popular brands named. Some of the most commonly named brands on the list include Nestle Purina?s Waggin? Train and Canyon Creek Ranch, Del Monte?s Milo?s Kitchen, Dogwells, and Kingdom Pets.
After 5 years of testing, the FDA said it has been unable to detect the contaminant making pets sick. ?It is important to understand that unless a contaminant is detected and we have evidence that a product is adulterated, we are limited in what regulatory actions we can take. The regulations don?t allow for products to be removed based on complaints alone? said Tamara N Ward of FDA Office of Public Affairs.
Kucinich counters ?The FDA has the authority to institute an import ban. They?re not doing that. Their letting these products sit on the market.?
Manufacturers and distributors said the treats remain on store shelves because, the ?FDA (has not) recommended any recalls of chicken jerky products? ? ?no contaminants have ever been found.?
A CBS 5 viewer, too distraught to speak on camera after losing her beloved dog, said in an email that the clerks at the store where she bought her treats assured her ?the FDA would never let tainted treats be sold.?
Companies including Pet Smart and Del Monte Corp, which makes Waggin? Train and Canyon Creek Ranch treats, contend the treats are ?safe to feed as directed?occasionally and in small quantities.?
Many pet food distributors including Del Monte Corp., Nestle Purina and Dogswell said they do their own independent testing and have found no cause for concern.
