SPOKANE, Wash. -- There are so many families in need this holiday season. They're struggling to find funds to even make the holiday happen.
Patricia Perkins is one of them. She's a mother of two, and for the past 10 years she's been caring for her ex-husband who was terminally ill. He passed just one month ago. Through that time, she's relied on government assistance to help pay the bills.
?"Having to rely on everyone else all the time is hard," she said. "It's very humbling and very hard."
Perkins has worked to get back on her feet and off assistance. She's been in and out of jobs, but now has a steady income. This is the first month in years she's been able to pay her bills without help from others.
Perkins told KREM she's been able to put a turkey on the table for three years because of Tom's Turkey Drive. She said she doesn't know what she'd do without the generosity of the Spokane community.
