More than a dozen pets were killed in a house fire in Baroda.
The blaze started early Saturday morning on the 9000 block of Second Street, which is south of West Lemon Creek Road and west of Hills Road.
One of the homeowners says it was their dogs who woke them up and alerted them to what was happening. Their smoke alarm did not go off right away.
The couple, who lived there, made it out in time and were not hurt, but all their pets died. They had two dogs and twelve cats.
It took firefighters hours to put out the blaze. The first floor collapsed into the basement and everything inside is a total loss.
No word yet on what started the fire.
