A former U.S. Marine who helped put a stop to a series of carjacking attempts that led to another man's arrest said he did so without hesitation.
Andrew Koplin won't call himself a hero, but many other people have dubbed him one anyway.
Police officers said Eliud Montalvo, 54, used a knife and tried to carjack four different people Monday near Curry Ford and Conway roads.
When he heard calls for help, Koplin stepped in -- with his gun.
"I saw him get in a car with this young girl, and hold a knife to her throat, so I ran out in traffic, stood in front of her car and I put the laser on him. I told him to get out of the car," Koplin said.
Koplin said the man then ran across the street and attempted to carjack someone else -- 79-year-old Joan Shedd.
"It's not my nature to just go with it," Shedd said.
Koplin stepped in and pointed his gun at Montalvo as he heard police sirens sounding.
"He knew better I think. He knew if he did anything to them, I was going to have to do what I had to do," Koplin said.
Koplin said he is a gun ownership advocate. He said he's happy the situation did not escalate further.
