The carnival atmosphere carried on long after the last of the floats completed its journey through the sun-soaked streets of Norwich.
There was plenty more to entertain the crowds who stayed in the city centre to wait for the fireworks finale, with a string of weird and wonderful events going on.
There had been a taster for the Street Mayhem event earlier in the afternoon, with street performers delighting the crowds with their antics.
Some kangaroos, courtesy of Sydney-based performance company Icarus were bouncing through the streets, thrilling youngsters, teasing teenagers and, rather bizarrely, rubbing the bare chests of some of the more mature revellers.
The colourful Circo Rum Ba Ba and the peculiar Ballonatic, where a man turned into a balloon, were also big hits with the crowds.
But it was later on that the mayhem really got underway. From 7pm, anyone exploring the city streets has not been able to predict what they might encounter around the next corner.
Close to Jarrold?s in Gentleman?s Walk, people were able to make requests of The Human Dukesbox, with an entire band crammed into a jukebox the size of a wardrobe.
The audience got to pick from all sorts of songs, ranging from jazz to techno and bluegrass, which were then performed by the dukes in the box.
In Theatre Street and Rampant Horse Street it was aerial acrobatics which caught the eye, courtesy of the spectacular dancing of Flight of Fancy and one man circus Kwabana Lindsay, whose high wire act and Superman pants earned applause.
Elswhere, there were some posh punters trying to make their way through the crowds, while the Liver Cottage Mobile Kitchen attempted to create culinary masterpieces by foraging for food.
In St Peter?s Street, outside City Hall, people got the chance to go inside the mouth of a whale - actually an alumnium creation inside which they enjoyed a three minute theatre show.
The nautical theme was quite fitting, given an enormous, pink, inflatable octopus had taken over the Guildhall as part of the Lord Mayor?s Celebration.
